“I get so irritated with people who don’t believe fibromyalgia is real. For me, and I think for many others, it’s really a cyclone of anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, and panic disorder, all of which sends the nervous system into overdrive, and then you have nerve pain as a result,” she said. “People need to be more compassionate. Chronic pain is no joke. And it’s every day waking up not knowing how you’re going to feel.”

Here’s a short excerpt from an interview given by Lady Gaga in the fall of 2017 after cancelling several European shows due to her hospitalization for fibromyalgia.   Her misfortune brought more awareness to the elusive disorder than any medical journal could incite. The difficulty with diagnosis is that there is no one conclusive test and treatment for the affliction.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder involving widespread pain and sensitivity throughout the entire musculoskeletal system.  Some patients also report chronic fatigue due to a weak immune system, or lack of sleep. Other autoimmunes issues can occur in conjunction with fibromyalgia, like TMJ pain (in the jaw and ear) and irritable bowel syndrome. The cause of the condition has yet to be discovered, but affects between 6-12 million people in the U.S.

Researchers believe fibromyalgia is a “central nervous system disorder rooted in neurochemical imbalances, since those with FM are hypersensitive to even the slightest stimuli and often have a pain response to normally non-painful pressure or activity.”

Chiropractic adjustments can improve a patient’s nervous system, alleviating pain and  increasing prospects for recovery. It’s often difficult for patients to find solutions for all of their symptoms, but recent studies show that chiropractic adjustments combined with a soft tissue technique called ischemic compression can help  patients. Chiropractors, like Dr. Rob Fast of the Back Pain Clinic Belleville,  can also reduce a patient’s overall pain through spinal adjustments. Increasing mobility between spinal vertebrae, leads to a larger range of motion in the cervical area of the spine, leading up to the lumbar.

If you suffer from fibromyalgia, call the Back Pain Clinic Belleville to schedule an appointment. With nearly 20 years experience, Dr. Fast has successfully treated neck, spinal and other associated autoimmune disorders, through a variety of chiropractic interventions.  You don’t have to live with chronic pain.
