If you’re a fan of The Back Pain Clinic blog, then you know how we feel about the children undergoing chiropractic care. The news is out – more and more children are receiving chiropractic treatments, according to www.sciencebasedmedicine.org.
When four-year-old Gavin Devine was born, his neck was slightly twisted to one side. So when he was barely two-months-old, his father, Kevin Devine, decided to take him to his chiropractor.
“My wife wasn’t able to breastfeed him because it was so painful for him to put his neck in one position,” said Devine. And did the chiropractic intervention work?
“You could see that the body was healing itself. The chiropractor did what’s called an adjustment, a spinal manipulation designed to adjust the position and movement of the vertebrae.” And because of the results, they continued the treatments; now Gavin refers to them as “massages.” The treatment was so successful, when his brother Michael was born a year later, he also became a patient.
“There are problems that start at the birthing process that are going unnoticed and that’s why as chiropractors we believe that all children should be checked,” said Dr. David Graber, the DC who treats the Devines. “A lot of the time we just use our fingertips to make the adjustments,” Dr. Graber said.
About two million children in the U.S. receive chiropractic treatment every year, making it second only to natural supplements as an alternative treatment. Health experts warn that if you’re considering chiropractic manipulation for your child, make sure you go to a chiropractor who has a lot of experience in treating young children. Infants 6 months and younger are prone to infection due to immature immune systems; likewise, toddlers learning to walk and other large motor skills, require a healthy spine to fully develop.
Fortunately for you, Dr. Rob Fast, a graduate of Logan University – College of Chiropractic, was trained in evaluating and treating the maladies of children. Also, in his near 20 years in the field, he has treated and helped infants and children relieve everything from earaches to allergies. And as you know from living in the midwest, allergies can be debilitating, especially for a child suffering from a vertebral subluxation.
As a father, Dr. Fast understands the phases of childhood development and how to make kids feel comfortable in his care. Parents need a skilled chiropractor to assess and treat the needs of their children and explain treatments. Dr. Fast’s office is conveniently located on Main Street on the west end; our office is open Monday through Friday with additional appointments on Saturday.
If your child suffers from allergies, headaches or general aches and pains, why wait to get them the natural relief they need?
